Bikai, Patricia M. and Thomas A. Dailey, eds. Madaba: Cultural Heritage. Amman: National Press, 1996.

The mosaic discoveries of the past century have earned Madaba the title "city of mosaics". Madaba, whose history goes back 3500 years. It was here that David’s forces defeated the Ammonite and Aramean coalition. Madaba’s strategic position meant that it was constantly coveted over the centuries. In addition to its spectacular collection of mosaics and Byzantine treasures, Madaba is also well known for its hand-woven carpets, saddle bags and tapestries. This publication offers a brief history of Madaba and analyzes its surveys compiled on Madaba’s antiquities, and vernacular architecture.
