Bienkowski, Piotr, ed. Treasures from an Ancient Land: The Art of Jordan. United Kingdom: National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside, 1991. This book was published as a general introduction to the art and heritage of Jordan on the occasion of the exhibition Jordan: Treasures from an Ancient Land. For the first time a broad overview is taken of the various art forms throughout Jordan’s history, rather than the country being regarded strictly chronologically or geographically. The format of this book follows that of the exhibition with chapters on sculpture, pottery, applied arts, mosaics, writing, traditional costume and folk jewelry. Neither architecture nor coins have been treated separately, although architecture is included in the introductory chapter on the archeology and history of Jordan. |
